How much power can be had from a 4.2L diesel
« on: June 05, 2013, 03:26:13 PM »
Hi all

Just thought I would post up a couple of vids that I found on another forum.

The vehicle in question (here on the south side of Brisbane) is a diesel 80 series with the 1HD-FT oiler in it.
That's the 24V mechanical direct injected turbo diesel that came out factory in the 80 series between 1995 and 1997.

Obviously these guys have gone to town on it but the outcome is nothing short of impressive.

Custom turbo, custom intake system, etc...

The specs are at the end of the videos.

Worth a watch. Even for you datto drivers.

Don't know how long these guys will keep these vids up on the net so enjoy while you can.

The boys were saying that they are having issues with the HD clutch (slipping) at the moment but are expecting over 300RWHP form a full time 4WD.

Pretty damn impressive.

and IT'S DIESEL!

i wonder what the life span of that motor is whilst running 30psi through the turbo?
Just a heads up...Jeff has changed his signature due to being foolish enough to leave his account logged on when he borrowed my phone.
I preferred his signature i'd written there myself before he changed it...lol
Nice try Grasshopper!!!!!

I was thinking the same thing.. It's still quick for a diesel though..

It's quite surprising.

There are a few of these guys running 30+ with well over 100,000 since the mods.

But most of them are the FT or a FTE with a mechanical pump on. 1 guy is running a 1HD-T but there is no way a 1HZ would handle the punnishment that they are dishing out.

Quite an interesting read. One of the most significant mods is to get air into the engine. Most have opted for a 4" system with a custom airbox and panel filters to pull it off.

One of the more experienced guys lives up in weipa and his truck basically lives on the old tele track or mad runs in and out of cairns.

Still, scary numbers. You would have to know what you're doing.

I'm pretty sure that bloke from weipa has the same colour 80 as mine.. He did a photo shoot with 4wd action last year going up the tele track.. And they claimed that they were the first ones up to the tip.. Which is far from the truth..

Yep, that's Ray.

He also has a wicked 80 series cut down into a ute with a LS1 in it and sitting on 37". He calls it cranky.
