Dual battery for 4Runner
« on: November 12, 2012, 05:14:51 PM »
Hey guys.

Looking for some opinions.

I am thinking of putting a dual battery setup into the 4Runner. Want to be able to safely run the fridge if we take it out anywhere (aka, fishing). Poor old Sooty is now accessorised to the point we can no longer fit people in it. (thinking remote control???)

Anyhow  :P

My question is, does anyone know where the second battery can be mounted. Only place that seems possible is where the air cleaner is. But I don't want to move that because I would also like to fit a snorkel one day and all the kits for that I have seen use the air cleaner in the original(ish) position.

Not a lot of real estate under 4Runner/Surf/Hilux bonnet.

Any ideas or photo's?

It's a late 89 4Runner IFS with a 22R petrol engine (RN130)

Maybe a battery tray for the hilux of the same era?

From memory the hilux one replaces the main battery tray and then fits a small battery next to it hanging out off the guard towards the engine?

Maybe try someone like Piranha Offroad?

Ahh, that sounds feasible.

I looked at piranha a while ago. Couldn't make out the photos compared to our little truck.

I'll have another look.

Thanks.

Hi Maurits,

If my car is any sort of guide, forget under the hood and put it in the back area. An AGM will be perfect and at least you can put one of a decent sort of size.

Cheers

I put my second battery in the tray on our Rodeo as we had no room in the engine bay

That's another good idea Cheiffy and Gissmo.

Have to have a look in the back and see where I can mount a box.

Would rather have it under the bonnet but as you said Cheiffy, if I put it in the back I can use whatever size I want.
