Space Case/Tuff Box
« on: April 16, 2012, 02:48:55 PM »
I am looking for a Space Case or Tuff box to go on my roof rack. Looking for something 900 - 1200L  300-500W and low profile (250 -350). Am happy for second hand or Chinese copy. Don't really want to pay $400 for the little use it is going to get.

Have already scoured eBay, Trading post and Gum Tree......

Got the box today. Have to say very happy. Better finish and quality than the space case or tuff box and half the price.

I got the 550 x 900 x 380. Unfortunately they only do this size and a 450 x 700 x 370.

The large one is http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TOOL-CASE-STORAGE-BOX-ARMY-STYLE-TRUNK-LOCKER-UTE-CHEST-/280856560832?pt=AU_Housekeeping&hash=item41645b04c0#ht_2006wt_1344 and the small on is http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TOOL-CASE-STORAGE-BOX-ARMY-STYLE-TRUNK-LOCKER-UTE-CHEST-/290704123970?pt=AU_Housekeeping&hash=item43af50e842#ht_1429wt_1344

The photos are identical to what it actually is - very good quality. Neither one was the identical size to what I wanted but will do the trick. Would be good if they had some slimline options as I wanted it for a roof rack.

Hi Kris,

Firstly, sorry for reviving an old thread. I am looking for a box for the roof rack and came across this thread. Just wondering how your getting on with the tool case. Before i go ahead and order one , it would be nice to have your opinion regarding them. Did the box live up to expectations?

Cheers,

Taf

Good to see you're still kicking around on here!

The box is great. I was so happy with the first one that I bought a second. Feel free to come have a look some time if you want to see the actual size etc...

Hi Kris,

Yes im still around, on the forum at least.  Had family over from the UK for two months which, combined with the fact that i work shifts means only get 1 weekend in 6 off means the forum is the only 4wd action im getting at the moment. The shifts also prevent me getting to the montly meetings which is a shame given that the one and only time i got to a meeting i won the meat tray....100% win record so far....lol. On the plus side though it did give me time to finally ( at least i hope finally) get the oil leak sorted out that left the challenger smelling like a burning oil field.

As for the boxes, i'm hoping to get one up on the rack and , from what i can see, these look reasonably priced. The internal measurements seem a liitle smaller than i hoped for, but then i suppose if the internal measurements were larger then the box would be too big to be able to manouvure it easily up, and down , from the rack. ( one good thing about owning the shopping trolley sized challenger is that at leat its not too high to lift boxes onto...so Sue should be able to manage it easily..... ;D). As with everything we pack, i suppose i just need to make sure i pack it sensibly and hopefully i can get what i need up there.

If you have any pics of it on your rack mate then at least that will give me an idea of size
